Call centres are centralized offices of companies which have a group of people handling incoming calls and customer requests/complaints. Many multinational companies and large corporations have call centre/centres which provide customer service to all its customers. People working in the call centre are known as call centre agents or customer service representative. These call centre agents have their own work station which has things including a computer, a telephone set/headset connected to the telecom switch etc. Knowing computer skills are a must for call centre agents as all call details are needed to be encoded in a system. Call centre agents can interact with the customer through e-mails or letters, telephone or through online chat.

The calls handled by customer service representative are usually monitored and recorded. This is done to ensure quality and just to be on the safer side if the request has to be revised. Customer experience is very crucial in such experience and the call centre needs to ensure that each customer is treated as an important individual while talking to the company. He/she expects proper courtesy and professional help from the customer service representative.

The call centres use telephones and computers instead of having personal contacts with the customers. Thus the call centre agents are free to be placed anywhere in the world geographically. Earlier this was not the case. Every company used to have their own call centres but with the changing times, the companies have hired organizations to which they can outsource their work. Thus a company based in UK can have its call centre in India. By outsourcing the work to other companies, the main company can concentrate more on its core work areas. Outsourcing is also a cost effective solution for bigger companies. You can get better work done at lesser cost.

Thus it can be said that happy customers are the best sales persons for your business. Hence, it is critical for a business to enhance customer experience at every touch-point. If your customer service systems are developed, then you can always take a lead from your competitors.
